I Grew Up by the Sea. My Wife Always Dreamed of It.
My name is Pedro Tomás. I was born and raised in Gafanha da Vagueira, in Vagos, on the Aveiro coast of Portugal. The sea was never a view for me. It was my backyard, my school and, later, my job.
I trained in fishing and hold the qualifications of Offshore Fishing Master and Ocean Skipper. I worked in coastal fishing in Portugal and spent hard seasons fishing for cod off the east coast of Canada, through storms, freezing cold and days when the sea decides everything.
Between 2000 and 2016 I also ran my own metalworking company. That taught me something the sea had already shown me: plan well, keep things simple and solve problems yourself.
How SeaFront Odyssey Was Born
I met my wife by the sea. She is from the inland part of the country. We dated for just a few months and got married.
Life took us to live inland, far from the coast. But she had always dreamed of living by the sea, and that longing never went away.
So we did the only thing we could. We brought the sea home. We changed the colours and the light in our house. We chose plants that remind us of the coast. We created small daily rituals. We cooked the way people cook by the water.
It worked. Our home started to feel like a house by the sea, even without seeing it.
That is what SeaFront Odyssey is: everything we learned, turned into simple, practical guides, so you can do the same, wherever you live.
Four Ways to Bring the Sea Home
- Home & Decor: colours, light and textures that make any room feel coastal.
- Gardens & Plants: hardy plants and green spaces with a sea soul.
- Coastal Wellbeing: daily rituals that bring the calm of the ocean into your routine.
- Food & Drinks: coastal recipes and drinks that turn a meal into a trip.
What You Can Expect From Me
No filters and no fairy tales. I live what I write about. If you want to see the real sea, the one with bad weather and long nights, watch my cod fishing videos on YouTube at @theocean3259.
My guides are written the same way: direct, simple and made for real life. No big renovations, no complicated techniques, no wasted time.
You do not need to move to the coast to live with the sea.
Welcome aboard.
Pedro Tomás
